Questions you might have

The Institute recognises some degree courses as 'Qualifying Courses' which means that on graduation, people with these degrees are eligible to become a Graduate Member. On graduation from any other degree course you can become an Associate Member. Both Graduate and Associate Members can, with sufficient experience of working in ergonomics/ human factors, become eligible to apply to become either a Technical Member, or more likely, a Registered Member.

Yes, you can apply to become a Technical Member or a Registered Member. You will need a minimum of two years of work experience of ergonomics and human factors for Technical Membership and three years for Registered Membership. You must be able to demonstrate narrow but deep knowledge of ergonomics in at least one area for Technical Membership, and a much broader knowledge and experience of ergonomics for Registered Membership. Your application will usually involve keeping a log book of the work you undertake during your years as an Graduate or Associate Member. It's important to start this process early, so that you have all the necessary records when you wish to apply. You should read the information about Technical or Registered Membership as soon as you become a Graduate or Associate Member.
