The workplace as we know it is rapidly changing. We are now seeing people work in more sedentary postures than ever, causing increased fatigue and more risk of musculoskeletal disorders. The Health & Safety Executive suggest that 498,000 people are suffering from work related musculoskeletal disorders and those are only the ones we know about! Many businesses have launched flexible working policies which allows their people to work from anywhere including at home, at co-working offices and in public spaces. What this means though is many people working in poorly designed environments and without the knowledge of how to make that environment work for them.
With the Workplace Sector Group, we aim to:
- Promote the discipline of ergonomics and human factors within the workplace industry (including architecture, design and furniture).
- Provide an open forum for ergonomics and human factors professionals to exchange ideas and thoughts.
- Be a point of contact for those outside this discipline to learn more, interact with the group and bridge the gap between ergonomics and many other disciplines.
- Provide opportunities for new research and the curation of white papers.
