  • Appreciate disorders and injuries to the spine that occur due to incorrect manual handling.
  • Provide manual handling information and handouts to employees on request.
  • Understand the requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and associated guidance.

  • Understand the principles and practice of manual handling risk assessment in the workplace. Carry out a simple manual handling risk assessment.
  • Teach delegates how to carry out a manual handling risk assessment.
  • Understand controlling risk using safe systems of work such as team lifting, mechanical aids and pushing/pulling.
  • Understand basic human anatomy and its relationship to safe lifting techniques.
  • Apply efficient movement principles and safe practice to the movement of loads.
  • Produce a plan for a manual handling session.
  • Deliver a manual handling session (observed assessment)
  • Carry out effective self-evaluation.

  • Delivery/presentation skills and training techniques
  • Delivering a manual handling training session. Practising whilst being observed and coached by the trainer undoubtedly increases confidence and improves delivery skills.

By observation of a practise delivery.
End of course test.
