As a result of the changing climate, we are changing the way we choose to live, work, consume, travel, communicate, generate energy, produce food and deal with waste.
Ergonomists have an important role to play in ensuring that the necessary changes are acceptable to those they affect. The potential for our involvement is broad and includes:
- Ergonomics of green jobs (for example in renewable power generation, waste management and recycling)
- Design of ‘green products’ (and more generally, ergonomic product design which will minimise consumer waste)
- Design and usability of green technologies to modify driver behaviour and household energy use
- Design of low energy buildings
- Design of information to influence consumer choices
- Design of communication methods to reduce travel requirements
