Ergonomics 4 Schools
This SIG's aims are to develop:
- Dissemination of ergonomics to students and others at all levels below tertiary education.
- The application of ergonomics to the management of, and work within, schools.
- The application of ergonomics to the design and development of educational systems in schools including learning/teaching styles, school and classroom management systems, school furniture, the premises and its immediate environment.
- Work towards the inclusion of ergonomics as part of an educational curriculum.
The SIG also provides a forum to support the development and free exchange of scientific knowledge within the subject area, while implementing the knowledge to further the aims of the IEHF. This Group will be open to all who share these aims. Please contact the Group organiser if you are interested in joining. SIG members can find additional information on the MSN groups site.
The SIG regularly sets up virtual conferencing using YAHOO Messenger. The conferences have involved IEA members and professional colleagues from four continents who have had to develop the appropriate technical skills. (The techniques for handling time zones and technology are far from obvious.) The conferences have addressed investment appraisal associated with equipment and furniture for a classroom - a subject chosen as we have had a number of enquiries on the subject with little to offer in return.
The SIG supports a website called Ergonomics 4 Schools at www.ergonomics4schools.com which provides ergonomics knowledge in a form suitable for anyone but is aimed primarily at secondary schools. The SIG supports IEA activities in this area and is currently in discussion with others on the development on the ergonomics4schools website in languages other than English.
