London & the South East
The group (still known as LEG) recently met to discuss what members would like from the group and how we can achieve this. The area has a large number of ergonomists and people working in human factors. The areas of expertise amongst the LEG members are very diverse and we established that we can all learn a lot from each other. We’d also like to create links with other professional groups and industries in London and the South East. As well as professional events it was clear that there was demand for informal social events and networking.
The current group co-ordinator is Dave Hayes who recently joined Amberlight, a London-based Human-Computer Interaction consultancy who provide usability, user-centred research and design services to clients and partners in the UK. Although LEG has yet to establish a regular committee there is support from the following people: Lucy Nogrady of Davis Associates, an ergonomics consultant whose background is in user centred design and accessibility; Simon MacMull of Davis Associates, an ergonomics consultant whose interests are in transport and physical ergonomics; Christine Tomlinson, Senior Principal at ABS. Christine has been a long standing member of LEG and will assist in events coordination.
The group has been dormant for a while but previous activities have included trips to the Thames Barrier, HMS Belfast, and the London Eye. In the past the group has also arranged back of house visits to the Covent Garden Opera House and the BBC News 24 studios.
The main plan for the group is to encourage regular attendance of meetings and talks and to re-establish a professional network in London and the South East. We had a very successful meeting recently where lots of enthusiasm was expressed and lots of good ideas for future events were discussed.
The group really relies on and benefits from member participation and support. If you can help out in any way such as offering a venue or helping to organise a visit or event, that would be great. We’d like to extend a warm welcome to anyone interested in ergonomics so please spread the word about LEG. We aim to have at least four events per year.
Please add yourself to the LEG LinkedIn group for updates and to join in the discussions.
