Ergonomists at the Institute of Naval Medicine have produced a Guide to Understanding Human Factors and Human Behaviour in Safety Management and Accident Investigation.
The guide has been prepared as part of the Navy Safety Improvement programme by Bob Bridger, Peter Pisula and Anthea Bennett. Its purpose is to help accident investigators ask the right questions about human factors when investigating accidents and identify risk factors for human error in the work environment.
The guide is in four sections:
Introduction to Human Factors and Human Behaviour Classification of Human Factors within accidents; Errors and Violations Identifying human factors and human behaviours after an accident. Appendix: with some examples of accidents at sea and the role of human factors.
