Who can become a Graduate Member?

Any student who has graduated from one of the Institute’s accredited degree courses. If you graduated some time ago, it is possible that your course was previously accredited by the Institute but is now not listed – please contact us if you think this is the case.

How long can I be a Graduate Member for?

You would normally be a Graduate Member for three years, at which point you will have gained sufficient experience to be eligible to progress to Registered Membership. To do this you must be able to demonstrate the sort of work you have been doing in ergonomics and human factors and have worked for a year under the supervision of a mentor, who is a Registered Member or Fellow of the Institute. This involves keeping a log of the work you undertake during your three years as a Graduate. It is important to start this process as soon as you become a Graduate Member, so that you have all the necessary records when you come to apply for Registered Membership. You should read the information about Registered Membership as soon as you become a Graduate Member.

How much does it cost?

The current subscription rates for a Graduate Member are £60 for the first two years after graduation, then £74 for the third year and onwards. These rates apply if you pay by direct debit, if you pay by cheque or debit/credit card, a fee of £8 will be added.

How do I apply?

Simply complete the application form and email it to the office. Note that the application form is a PDF that can be filled in electronically but you must have Adobe Reader 9.0 or later. Get Adobe reader.

Problem with interactive application form?

Please note: due to recent Firefox updates, the PDF application form may not display in the interactive format it should in this browser. If this is the case, click on 'Firefox' in the very top left hand corner of the window, then Options, Options, Applications. Scroll down to where it lists 'Portable Document Format (PDF)' and click on it. It will then give you options as to how to open it. Change it to 'Use Adobe Acrobat x.x' and open the PDF file again. You should now be able to fill in and save the file.
