In order to promote research we facilitate the sharing of experiences and results, work, ideas and the formation of friendships and networks in the field of ergonomics.

SELF 2013: meeting society’s challenges

50th Anniversary Congress of the Société d’Ergonomie de Langue Française: Meeting society’s challenges.

Over the last 50 years, ergonomics has changed. Originally, and due to its nature, ergonomics set itself as a resource improving the development of the organisations facing different demands regarding employee health, production efficiency, product and service design. This is the challenge of this 50th Congress. Looking at what has already been achieved, the invitation is to explore paths for the future, to rethink what is crucial to ergonomics and to better understand how diversity matches unity. The focal point of all these questions is the way in which activity is value adding. These are the roots of this Congress, to ensure that ergonomics lives up to society’s expectations.

Visual Image Safety

VIMS 2013: the 4th International Symposium on Visual IMage Safety. How can an image be ‘unsafe’? Quite easily, as it turns out. Flashing lights can produce photo-epileptic fits, moving images can produce symptoms like those of motion sickness, people have complained of eyestrain and headaches after viewing 3D stereoscopic images and, historically, when VDUs were first introduced there were numerous problems reported.

This symposium will be organised by Dr Peter Howarth from Loughborough University and Dr Cyriel Diels from Coventry University. Deadline for submission of abstracts is 3rd June 2013.
