Awards & bursaries
Each year the Institute honours individuals or groups, both from within the IEHF and outside, with awards, medals or prizes. Awards are available for prestigious contributions of various sorts or services to the Institute or to ergonomics and human factors generally.
For research, development and application of ergonomics
- The Sir Frederic Bartlett Medal honours any individual who has made significant contributions to original fundamental, applied or methodological research, development and application of knowledge and scholarship in ergonomics/human factors.
- The President's Medal honours any group, institution or organisation which has made significant contributions to research and development, and application of knowledge generally in ergonomics/human factors.
- The Otto Edholm Award honours Registered Members or Fellows of the IEHF and has made significant contributions to the application of ergonomics/human factors.
For the application of ergonomics through design
- The Ergonomics Design Award is presented to any individual or group, who best demonstrate(s) excellence in ergonomics/human factors application through the design of a product, system or project in use.
For a paper, project or essay
- The Liberty Mutual Award is given to the authors of the best paper published in the journal 'Ergonomics' in the previous year, for the best contribution to the practice of ergonomics/human factors in health and safety.
- The Applied Ergonomics Award is given to the authors of the best paper published in the journal 'Applied Ergonomics' in the previous year, for the highest quality in terms of content, presentation and impact.
- The Ulf Aberg Award is given to the best postgraduate student project in ergonomics/human factors.
- The Hywel Murrell Award is given to the best undergraduate student project in ergonomics/human factors.
- The Richard Clive Holman Memorial Prize is awarded for an outstanding essay on ergonomics/human factors submitted by any student whilst on a course registered with and/or approved by the IEHF.
For service or contribution to ergonomics or the IEHF
- The Institute Lecture honours a member of the ergonomics/human factors community who has shown sustained contribution and expertise in one or more fields of ergonomics/human factors and high levels of oral and written communications skills, by inviting them to be the Institute Lecturer, usually at that year’s Annual Conference.
- The William Floyd Award honours any individual or group who has made outstanding and innovative contributions to ergonomics/human factors or to the IEHF.
- The Paul Branton Award honours any individual who has given meritorious service to the IEHF.
- The title of Honorary Fellow is awarded to a member of the ergonomics/human factors community who has made significant contributions to the discipline, profession and/or the Institute over a considerable period of time.
