Consultancy Accreditation

If you are in an organisation or you are an individual who offers consultancy services in ergonomics and human factors, applying for accreditation as a CIEHF Registered Consultancy will benefit your business.

When you become registered you will:

Quick eligibility check

  • Our/my ergonomics expertise is available on a consultancy basis to any potential client (internal or external).
  • We/I have at least one Registered Member or Fellow of the Institute with Chartered Status on our/my permanent staff. They will be nominated as the main contact.
  • Our/my consultancy can demonstrate experience in the areas of competence we/I will be claiming.
  • We/I can provide evidence to show that our/my consultancy has a programme of continuing professional development for both the consultancy services and individual consultants needs.
  • We/I agree to abide by the Institute’s Code of Conduct.

Your competencies

Applications are assessed to determine whether the claims made within it are appropriate given the information presented on the application form and in the accompanying documents. Your consultancy must employ or contract suitably competent consultants, each with a proficiency level of at least 3 (intermediate), to provide the ergonomics services you are offering. Assessment will be made  by reviewing the consultants' CVs.

Your Consultancy must remain up to date in the discipline to maintain the quality of your services and ensure the continuing professional development of your individual consultants. You will be expected to show how you do that, for example with team meetings, and by offering opportunities and time for consultants to carry out CPD activities.

The technical quality of your ergonomics consultancy service will be assumed to be satisfactory if all the work is performed by a Chartered Member of the Institute, or the work is supervised and signed off by a Chartered Member.

Assessment of your application

During the assessment of your application, all assessors follow specific written guidance and complete a checklist to ensure they work consistently and we maintain an clear record of your application. You should read these too before you apply to understand what the assessors are looking for, how they do their assessment, and to give yourself the best chance of success.

There is a one-off application fee of £75+VAT. There is then a 3-year subscription fee of currently £678+VAT payable in June. You will be charged a pro-rata fee from the time your application is accepted until the following June.

Your application will be assessed by qualified Registered Consultancy assessors of the Professional Affairs Board of the Institute.

Your consultancy will be listed as an Institute Registered Consultancy, and will be promoted via our website to potential clients. It is important therefore to think carefully about the details and descriptions you supply to us for this purpose, in order to maximise your chances of attracting work. You will be able to use a special Institute logo to show your accreditation.

Yes, we will ask you to reaccredit your consultancy every 3 years. You should tell us in the meantime if any of your consultancy's details change.

How to apply

1. Complete the application form

Download the application form and complete all parts including the table in the appendix detailing the areas of expertise you offer clients.

2. Gather your consultants' CVs

You will need to provide a detailed CV for each consultant that will provide services on your consultancy's behalf.

3. Pay the application fee

Once we have received your application, we will issue you with an invoice for the application fee, together with instructions on how to pay. Once you have paid the invoice, we can begin the assessment process.
